Microsoft today announced it is acquiring game publisher Activision Blizzard in a nearly $69 billion all-cash deal. The acquisition is being widely seen as a big bet to keep Microsoft competitive in the burgeoning metaverse space. Historic day for French Tech. On Tuesday January 11, two giant fundraisers were unveiled in quick succession by the payment specialist dedicated to businesses Qonto and the Back Market marketplace, which are on the podium of French unicorns. Back Market, specialist in the resale of refurbished electronic objects, announced in the second half of the day that it had raised 450 million euros, reaching 5.1 billion euros in valuation.
Not far away, tips on crypto tokens are being exchanged, startups are being sold and new romances are blossoming. It’s a regular morning in the world’s first “digital nomad village” on the Portuguese archipelago of Madeira, also known as the island of eternal spring.
Digital nomadism — a phenomenon that emerged in the late 2000s — essentially means travelling around the world while working from your laptop. And as Covid-19 has allowed more people to work remotely, communities designed to cater to this demographic have begun to emerge.
Already publicly available in a test version, the Swiss telemedicine app Well continues to grow ahead of the final release, scheduled for this spring. A joint venture between health insurers CSS and Visana, telemedicine provider Medi24 (Allianz Care), and online pharmacy Zur Rose, the Well app is now integrated with BlueConnect software. The software is provided by BlueCare and is compatible with all medical practice software available on the market. The integration allows doctors to share medical documents with their patients digitally and securely, the joint venture said in a release.
